G’Day & Kia Ora! This Page’s Invite-Only
Hiya, Welcome! Fancy Seeing You Here, Ryan Must’ve Invited You!
Overview
Hiya, welcome! Ryan’s invited you to join our invite-only Crew of 8!
So what’s it about? Why’s this worth my time or interest? Well, here’s our mini pitch to you!
We’re the Australia Youth Film Festival (AUYFF) Presented by UTS and New Zealand Youth Film Festival (NZYFF) Presented by The New Zealand Herald, two jointly managed non-profits across the Tasman! While we have very long names, our purpose is simple. We’re here to find, celebrate, and empower Australia and New Zealand’s next generation of movie stars!
Think the Oscars®, awards, sponsors, judges, hotels, and sometimes even champagne! All of this is brought to life thanks to a large network of collaborating sponsors, partners, experts, advisors, and volunteers. That includes our Crew, which we’re hoping could also include you!
What’s
The Crew?
Our Crew is a small team of incredible, talented, and fun-loving volunteers, and we’d love to invite you to be a part of it!
This is a team of 8 young entrepreneurs, geeks, engineers, creators, and problem-solvers - among many more titles! Teammates are exclusively invited to join, and are based in Auckland, Wellington, or Sydney. It’s very much a programme of its own, designed to provide each teammate with opportunities to develop business skills, network, and obviously have a blast! Not to mention lead, network, and build your portfolio along with the Festival’s.
Once a year, each Festival will run 2 consecutive days of events in a host city, meaning that as part of this programme, teammates will receive:
Round-trip flights to/from Sydney (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand) if you’re not based in either
Accommodation across both Festival’s events in Sydney (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand)
Plus potential invites to additional events, sponsor hangouts, software subscriptions, and more!
Read on if this interests you!
The Experience
Both Festivals are identical in programme structure. Each receives hundreds of entries from across each respective country, and involve inviting dozens of lucky nominees to a host city! That’s where our Festival’s 2-day event programme takes place, which includes an Industry Day with one-of-a-kind experiences and our red carpet Award Ceremony!
Our Crew’s here to support the creation and delivery of both Festivals in both countries. It’s also a unique way to learn, grow, and have a blast! We’re 8 folks who are in Australia (NSW) and New Zealand, volunteering a bit of our time in the lead up to each Festival and taking part in projects we choose which help customise our individual Crew experience!
Every Crew member supports our events and also receives the following:

As a teammate and volunteer, you’ll be reporting to our Director (Ryan)
Collaborating alongside other Crew teammates to help bring our events to life
Help our event attendees by being a friendly and welcoming point of contact. You’ll answer questions, provide info, direct questions you don’t know the answers for to the right teammate, and generally provide a helping hand
You may be asked to manage or lead our other event volunteers. This includes helping to make sure everything’s running smoothly, and that volunteers know what to do or where to go
If you’re interested in this, you’ll be invited to manage, meet, or help our judges, VIPs, sponsor representatives, or other industry folk at our events
If you’re interested in this, you’ll be invited to take part in sponsor pitch or discussion meetings, stakeholder meetings, commercial fundraising meetings, or other business-related tasks
Take part in publicity initiatives or activities, including press coverage opportunities and any TV coverage, along with documenting our trips to Australia and New Zealand (eg. our journey in the air, behind-the-scenes event set-ups, team briefing meetings, encouraging entires videos for social media, meet our judges interviews)
Help out with ticketing and ensuring nominees comply with our Festival rules. This includes reporting when and if a nominee doesn’t stick to the rules or show up to an event they say they will

Our organisation is largely run by volunteers. Our Crew refers to the main volunteer team supporting both the New Zealand Youth Film Festival (NZYFF) and Australia Youth Film Festival (AUYFF). This team was previously referred to and separated as our Committee and Content Team. This is not to be confused with our Event Volunteers who support physical events.
