Are you a passionate photographer or casual photo snapper looking to capture the magic and excitement of film and youth talent in Aotearoa New Zealand? Or, perhaps you are your mates want to help contribute to the excitement and energy of the Festival’s Award Ceremony event as paparazzi! The New Zealand Youth Film Festival (NZYFF) Presented By The New Zealand Herald welcomes enthusiastic and talented individuals to join our team as volunteer Photographers and/or Paparazzi for our dynamic events program. As a volunteer Photographer, you will have the unique opportunity to document and preserve the special moments of our festival while building your portfolio and contributing to the festival's success. If you apply to be a Paparazzi, you’ll get to join in on a fun and magical evening, helping young attendees feel special and celebrated!

Successful Photographer applicants will be invited to our Award Ceremony event on Friday, 6 December, 2024, with details sent to each successful applicant.

Photographers will be asked to help capture event coverage, taking high-quality, compelling photographs of festival events and attendees - showcasing the essence and energy of each moment. Paparazzi will be taking photos of attendees at our Award Ceremony event, primarily based at our media wall (logo wall) and red carpet.

Volunteers will be able to be part of an exclusive event where you can experience the glamour and excitement of our special Industry Day and a red carpet Award Ceremony up close! You’ll get to connect with industry professionals and help aspiring young filmmakers at the same time.

  • You are someone with excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills. You have an enthusiastic, bubbly, and positive attitude. You are also organised and able to multitask, including in demanding situations. You are reliable and punctual, and also love to have a good time! If you’re passionate about or interested in the film industry, that’s a bonus!

    1. Taking Photos - Help take photos as a candid (casual) photographer.

    2. Paparazzi (optional) - If you sign up as a paparazzi photographer, you'll create a magical environment by taking photos as a paparazzi!

  • First and foremost, you'll have the opportunity to be an integral part of an exclusive and glamorous evening. This event is a celebration of the creative talents of young filmmakers, and by volunteering, you become a crucial part of the magic that unfolds during the Award Ceremony.

    Your help with the event and the hours you put in can be counted towards most university volunteering programmes.

    Your role as an Award Ceremony Photographer will help you develop and showcase essential skills, including outstanding customer service, organisational capabilities, and impeccable interpersonal skills. These competencies are invaluable in various personal and professional contexts, making your experience as a volunteer both enriching and empowering.

    One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an Award Ceremony Photographer is the chance to capture and create memorable moments for attendees. Whether you're taking photographs or helping to ensure that the evening runs smoothly, your contributions will result in a more enjoyable and memorable experience for all those in attendance. You'll play a part in preserving the memories that attendees will cherish.

    In addition to personal and skill development, volunteering at the Award Ceremony also offers an exclusive experience that allows you to access the heart of the event. You'll witness the excitement of recognising emerging talent in the film industry, mingle with fellow volunteers, attendees, and industry professionals.
